Going back to college
July 17, 2008 by maryb
Tonight I will be on equal footing with my teen/adult son. Tonight I take my first college exam in USHistory 132 at West. State as he sits next to me. When I announced to the kids that dad and I had decided the time had come and I was going back to school they were very excited. Once the college was chosen, my son told me which class to take this summer that would allow us to go together.
So tonight an impartial Professor will decide which of us understands the material better- the one who has been studying for others for 13 years or the one who has been making others study. I'm nervous but determined.
My one regret is that it does not make financial sense for me to go to the Elms or to major in Parish Ministry. By the time I'm done I need to make enough money to make up for our years raising a large family. I don't mind poor but I don't want to have nothing to retire on either.

She does not post often but you simply must read her current post. I hope to try her idea for Twelve Virtues.

New England Catholic Homeschool Conference
June 12, 2008 by maryb
Spread the word:
There will be a
New England Catholic Homeschool Conference!
June 6, 2009
St. George Parish
Chicopee, MA
The facility is perfect and right off the Mass Pike. There has not been a large conference in over a decade! We promise a full, energizing, helpful conference with Speakers you'll want to hear and lots of vendors.
But pray for us! None of us have done this before.
(yes I'll set up a web page but for now look here or at http://wmch.stblogs.com)
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You.

MASTER GARDENER
Master Gardener, help me be
Content with where You’ve planted me;
You carefully place each seed you sow,
And choose the soil to make it grow,
A shady nook or sunlit plot,
A wooded glen or garden spot;
And when you send the storm and shower,
You give me strength and inner power;
All things come that You might be
Glorified, my God, in me;
And so I’ll lift my flowers high,
To cheer and bless each passerby;
And may they see within my face
The beauty of Your love and grace;
So help me, Lord, to ever be
Blooming where You planted me.
—Wm. Claire Greiner
My sister posted this on her site. Margie Kelly had it in the centerpieces she made for last week's Women's Cursillo. In 92 she was on team when I made Cursillo and had been friend's with my mother forever. She has helped thousand's through her family, her Preschool, her knitting, etc.
We'll miss you!

The only one I knew passed away. I do think good marraige prep should involve Annument information. I've met so many divorced women who did not know they were able to seek annulment.
Father Henry Dorsch

The Observer will have an ad honoring Father on the 40th anniversary of his ordination from all who met him through Teen Encounter and Yahweh. (I did back in 81)He has become an even better priest over the years, truly living his vocation all the time. He did great things for our Diocese by recognizing the value of Teens and Young Adults as part of the church 'now' not church future. I'm honored our children have met him and see him every First Friday.
So Thank you Father Henry and all our wonderful priests!
Blogging

I love blogging! Love Catholic forums! I have noticed my temptation to have my 'self' lead rather than the Spirit. In the world of technology my sins become a permanent part of the World Wide Web- whether its a too fast response, an annoymous posted complaint, spending too much time online when my family needs me...
And as a Catholic blogger it reflects on the church as a whole. One woman has just begun a page where she will explore virtue, Gifts of the Spirit and the Fruits as explained in the Catechism and how they apply to our online experience. She is working with 2 respected priests as spiritual directors on the project so it should prove valuable.

I posted a review on our site right afterwards here http://wmch.stblogs.com/2008/03/03/first-annual-diocesan-womens-conference/
Since then I have read Lorna's book, (so has my teen daughter) and it is amazing! How real Mother Theresa seems, I could really relate to Lorna. Still praying for her recovery from cancer.
